What is Visual Marketing and how can it help your business?
Put simply, Visual Marketing is the art of creating a visual impact and connecting with your viewer using content such as photography, video or animation.
As a former newspaper photographer I was always aware that readers would usually look at one of my photographs first, before moving onto the headline and then the story.
Now in this digital era the psychology behind this natural human response has not changed, whether you’re talking about newspapers and magazines or web sites and social media, connecting with your audience using visual content is more important than ever.
In essence, this is the thinking behind Visual Marketing, the opportunity to connect with and engage with potential customers using visual elements and if you’re not using Visual Marketing as a core strategy to let people know about you and your business, then you could be missing out.
I’m often left with the impression that many people post photography and video content on their social media and then just hope for the best. Visual Marketing takes posting such content to another level as it’s about creating a connection between the visual content and the viewer, who could also be your next potential customer or client.
This is an extract from Study.Com which explains why Visual Marketing is so important:
'.. Psychologists believe that visual elements help us remember and retain more details, while attracting more attention to something and zeroing in on a consumer's emotions or memories. Visuals create more powerful campaigns that excite our brains and get us thinking. They help us attach something tangible to a brand or product, rather than just a string of black and white text we're likely to forget moments after we read it ..'
If you are reading this blog post, then think about how you arrived at this point? Did I give you this link at a networking event? Hand over a business card with this web address? Or did you spot one of my Visual Marketing posts on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter? If you said yes to the last question, then this proves that Visual Marketing really works.
The good news is, whatever the size of your business, Visual Marketing is a cost-effective option as it can be scaled for purpose and budget. Visual Marketing can start with a Videoad from Cheshire Film and Photography, a simple, cost-effective option designed to attract attention on social media.
And it’s as simple as sending over your business logo and allowing me to create an eye-catching video animation, or I could use stock photography as with the Aspire Fitness example, think of it as a video business card that you present to your customer.

Documentary style, commercial videos help you to tell your story, they help your customers relate to you and understand the ‘why’ of your business. This is critical as author, Simon Sinek points out:
‘..People don’t buy what you do or how you do it, they buy why you do it ..’
Video is the perfect tool to tell your story, an opportunity to explain to the viewer or potential customer why you believe in the benefits of your product or service and how your product or service can help their business.
According to Forbes ‘Video marketing is one of the most cost-effective ways to market to people online'.’93% of businesses reported gaining a new customer as a direct result of a video posted on social media.’ – Rocketium Academy 'Video is one of the top shared pieces of content on social media.’ – Business 2 Community

Personal Branding photography, product photography and bespoke stock photography increase the visual impact of your web site's profile page, e-commerce page and blog.
Looking back to my newspaper days I can appreciate that the power of photography has not dwindled, if anything it has become even more significant. After all when was the last time you looked at a social media post which was text only?

However, whether it is photography, video, animation or a combination of these, presenting the right Visual Marketing for your business is essential. What would you think if at the end of a networking event I handed you my contact details on the back of a cigarette packet or scribbled hastily on a post it note rather than handing over a professional looking business card? While I would be giving you the same information, e.g. my contact details, would I be delivering the same message? A professional looking business card suggests that I take my business seriously and therefore so should you, whereas my phone number on the back of a cigarette packet would look unprofessional.
The same can be said of a D.I.Y approach to Visual Marketing. Yes, the technology is available to snap your own photos or shoot a video but while you might be giving out the same information, are you delivering the same message? If your Visual Marketing looks amateurish then could that be damaging to your business profile?
As they say, first impressions count!
